Next StepThank you for your interest in Next Step, a ministry that assists parents in making the gospel clear, attractive, and accessible to 11-13 year olds. (Those who are 11 or 12 as of September 30.) We want to welcome you to our gatherings, scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. We meet in room 213 after the time of corporate worship. So, what is Next Step? This class is designed to help 'tweeners' bridge between our children's ministry and the 3:16 Parent Teen ministry. We focus on making the Gospel relevant to your child's life and helping them understand how to get the most out listening to sermons. While there will be Next Step leaders throughout the year, we highly encourage parents to visit with their children to see what we are doing to be able to better reinforce the teaching at home. On each 2nd Sunday of the month, we will have a review of the previous week's sermon through fun but challenging contests with prizes. Throughout the year, our focus will be on helping them learn how to grow in not only listening to a sermon, but also how to apply the truths learned in their lives. So make sure your child listens to the sermon (and takes notes) the week before! On the 4th Sunday, we will a have a mini-teaching from the book called "Big Truths for Young Hearts" by Bruce Ware. This book discusses some of the great truths within scripture (theology) in a way that is easy to understand. Since we will not be able to cover all the material, this is an opportunity for parents to go through the book in its entirety with their child. Also, throughout the school-year we will be challenging the young teens to read through the entire New Testament, keeping track of those who stay on schedule. This works out to only about one chapter a day. We will briefly highlight themes found in the reading during class. For more information please contact the church office, 757.436.7264. |
