God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption.

Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in an exclusive covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God's unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church, and to provide for the man and woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel for sexual expression and the means for procreation of the human race.

The husband and wife are equal in personhood and worth before God, since both are created in God's image. The marriage relationship models the way the Lord relates to His people. A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church. He has the God-given responsibility to provide for, to protect, and to lead his family. A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ.

In a marriage lived according to these truths, the love between husband and wife will exhibit itself in listening to each other's viewpoint, valuing each others's gifts, wisdom, and desires, honoring one another in public and in private, and always seeking to bring benefit, not harm, to one another.

Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to demonstrate God's pattern for marriage to their children. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and to lead them, through consistent lifestyle examples, loving training, and to make choices based on Biblical truth. Children are to honor and obey their parents.

In order to help our members walk out these biblical values, the Family Life Ministry provides bi-weekly Care Groups - small group settings for married couples where we can help one another with the challenges of daily life through prayer, Bible study, counsel, encouragement, and caring friendships. We also provide instructional meetings and seminars on topics especially applicable to married couples such as marriage and parenting. We believe the raising of teens to be an important time in the lives of both the parents and children, so we provide small group contexts that help parents equip their teens to become God-honoring, mature men and women with solid biblical convictions.

Besides salvation, our spouse and children supply more joy than any other blessings. Naturally, they also provide most vivid windows into our hearts and clearly illuminate our limitations and ongoing need for God's grace as we seek to honor Him with these remarkable gifts. The Family Life Ministry of Sovereign Grace Church exists to provide biblical, practical instruction and ongoing encouragement as families join with one another to steward God's lavish grace.
